Karastan Contract, a division of The Mohawk Group, celebrates this cherished style of music with the premier of its aptly named Classical Collection. A surprisingly contemporary symphony of broadloom and modular carpet, the Collection coordinates with Karastan’s woven offerings, bringing timeless elegance and dynamic design into contract interiors.
“Classical is the result of a unique collaboration between junior designers and Karastan’s internal design professionals who were inspired by the rhythmic movements of classical music,” said Allen Parker, vice president of product strategies for The Mohawk Group. “By bringing together the creative minds of multiple generations, we’re able to provide our customers with a fresh, unexpected interpretation of commercial carpet that coordinates well in a variety of settings.”
Melodious Coordination
Designers will be moved to a standing ovation when specifying Classical’s three breathtaking 12-gauge broadloom and modular patterns, each available in an intriguing palette of 10 colors:
• Symphonic Plus – brings a subtle, yet unexpected twist to the classics with its whimsical modern design (broadloom only).
• Sonic Cadence – sets the tone with a creative interpretation of the keyboard (broadloom and modular).
• Sonata Chill – plays with simple texture, bringing added depth and dimension to interiors (broadloom and modular).
“Much like instruments in an orchestra, designers need a variety of tools,” adds Parker. “Classical represents Karastan’s new strategy to provide its customers with a breadth of woven, tufted and modular pieces in one Collection so they can achieve the desired look throughout a space every time.”
Continuing Karastan’s coordination story, Classical’s modular patterns can be paired with its broadloom patterns or with products from Karastan’s Modern Appeal woven carpet collection. Composed of the same creel as Modern Appeal with a pattern overlay, these products will ensure a harmonious aesthetic throughout a space.
Encore Performance
Products in the Classical Collection are manufactured with Type 6,6 Fortis Nylon. Featuring a bright metallic luster contrasted with a matte sheen, the nylon brings richness to the products, while providing permanent stain and fade resistance. Modular styles are available with Mohawk’s PVC-free Encycle® backing system. A model of sustainable design, Encycle is the only carpet tile backing system designed with three thermoplastic layers and zero water-based components, enabling complete recyclability back into itself without separation.
Classical’s broadloom offerings are backed with Mohawk’s Ultra Performance System™ RE (UPS RE). With high post-consumer recycled content, UPS RE is certified as a SCS (Scientific Certification System) Sustainable Choice Gold/ Environmentally Preferable Product (EPP), and meets California Gold standards. The state-of-the-art backing system enhances tufted carpet performance and offers installation flexibility.
With superior strength against delamination and edge ravel, the durability of Classical’s products ensures that the carpet stays in use and out of the recycling stream longer. Yet, when they reach the end of their useful life, Classical products can be reclaimed and recycled through the company’s ReCover program. The Classical Collection is covered by a lifetime warranty.
Continuing The Mohawk Group’s longstanding dedication to sustainability, Classical’s products are CRI Green Label Plus certified and recommended adhesives meet the most stringent rules for VOC emissions. Ensuring adherence to the highest environmental standards, the Collection’s modular products are produced in an ISO 14001-certifed manufacturing facility in Glasgow, Va.
